ZUMUNTAN MATA DIOCESAN CONVENTION OPENS, CELEBRATES DAY TWO ACTIVITIES, AND CONCLUDES WITH THANKSGIVING MASS IN MAIKAMBU
The 1st Diocesan Zumuntan Mata Convention of the Catholic Diocese of Katsina was solemnly held at St. Patrick’s Gidan Maikambu, Malumfashi Deanery, beginning with an opening Mass, followed by spiritually enriching activities, and concluding with a thanksgiving Mass on 28th February 2026. The convention commenced with an opening Mass at 6:30 p.m., marked by a solemn procession led by the Parish Priest, Very Rev. Fr. Pius Duniya, alongside Very Rev. Fr. Barnabas Bawa of Kafanchan Diocese, priests, catechists, and altar servers. In his welcome address, Fr. Duniya warmly received members and appreciated their dedication to the Church. The homily, delivered by Fr. Barnabas Bawa, emphasized key Christian virtues such as trust in God, prayerfulness, courage, and steadfast faith, encouraging the women to rely on God as their refuge. The second day began with the recitation of the Holy Rosary and morning prayers, setting a reflective tone. Goodwill messages were delivered by notable figures including the Diocesan Chairlady, Mrs. Habiba Isyaku, and representatives of the Catholic Women Organization and Laity Council, all urging unity, faith, and commitment. The day featured vibrant cultural and musical performances by various groups, fostering joy and unity. A major highlight was the Songs Competition (Gasar Wakoki), which saw active participation from parishes across the Diocese, showcasing talent and devotion. The day concluded with the Stations of the Cross led by Rev. Fr. Noel Kayit. The convention culminated in a closing Mass presided over by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Katsina, Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Mamman Musa. The Eucharistic celebration began at 9:00 a.m. with a solemn procession of clergy and liturgical ministers. In his homily, the Bishop commended the Chaplain, Very Rev. Fr. Kelvin Obineche, his assistant, and all priests for their support. He praised the Zumuntan Mata leadership for the successful organization of the convention and encouraged the faithful to embody Christ’s teaching of love, even towards enemies, especially amid prevailing challenges. The Songs Competition results were announced as follows: 1st Place – St. Martin’s de Porres Cathedral, Katsina 2nd Place – St. Vincent Ferrer, Malumfashi 3rd Place – St. Anthony of Padua, Gidan Bala In a vote of thanks, the Diocesan Chaplain expressed gratitude to the Bishop and all participants for their contributions. The Mass concluded with a final blessing at 11:00 a.m., bringing the historic first Diocesan Zumuntan Mata Convention to a successful and grace-filled close.
