FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT (YEAR A) ST JOHN OF THE CROSS GIDAN KURMA, CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF KATSINA.
3/15/2026
St John of the Cross Gidan Kurma Parish in the Catholic Diocese of Katsina joyfully celebrated the Fourth Sunday of Lent, Year A, on March 15, 2026, in a prayerful and spiritually uplifting atmosphere.
The Holy Mass began at exactly 7:00am with a solemn entrance hymn rendered by the parish choir. This was followed by a reverent procession of the altar servers, lectors, catechists, and the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Habila S. Bala, as the faithful gathered in unity to worship and reflect during this sacred Lenten season.
The Liturgy of the Word featured the following readings:
First Reading: 1 Samuel 16:1, 6–7, 10–13
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 23:1–3, 3–4, 5, 6
Second Reading: Ephesians 5:8–14
Gospel Reading: John 9:1–41 (or 9:1, 6–9, 13–17)
During his homily, Rev. Fr. Habila S. Bala reflected on the theme “The Lord is the Light and Healer of Blindness.” He explained that just as Jesus healed the man born blind in the Gospel, Christ continues to bring light into the darkness of human life. He encouraged the faithful to open their hearts to God, walk in the light of Christ, and avoid spiritual blindness caused by sin and lack of faith.
The congregation listened attentively and participated actively throughout the celebration, offering prayers, songs of praise, and thanksgiving to God.
The Holy Mass concluded peacefully at 9:30am with the final blessing, leaving the faithful spiritually renewed and strengthened in their Lenten journey.
